Let’s be real—choosing a family photographer is one thing, but picking the perfect spot for your session? That can feel like a whole other decision. But don’t stress, mama—I’ve got you. Whether you’re going for cozy and candid or polished and posed, the Capital Region is full of amazing photo-friendly spots that work for every kind of family vibe.
As a family photographer serving Albany, Saratoga Springs, Schenectady, Troy, and the surrounding areas, I’ve shot in just about every type of setting—from urban streets to wildflower fields. So here are a few of my favorite places to shoot family photos that give you the perfect mix of scenery, light, and personality.
Albany: Washington Park
If you’re going for classic, timeless, and full of charm—Washington Park is it. With gorgeous stone staircases, towering trees, fountains, and seasonal blooms, it’s a dream for spring and fall family sessions. In the spring, the tulip beds pop with color. In the fall, the leaves are next-level. Plus, there’s plenty of space for kids to run and explore while we sneak in those candid moments.
Saratoga Springs: Congress Park & Yaddo Gardens
Saratoga is basically a postcard—and both Congress Park and Yaddo Gardens offer dreamy backdrops for any kind of family session.
- Congress Park has everything: old-world architecture, a carousel, open lawns, and those perfect little nooks for intimate moments.
- Yaddo Gardens is ideal if you’re going for something soft and romantic. Think rose gardens, stone paths, and tons of natural light.
Both locations photograph beautifully and feel elevated but relaxed—just like your photos should.
Schenectady: Central Park Rose Garden
This hidden gem in Schenectady is such a surprise! The Central Park Rose Garden is absolutely stunning when the roses are in bloom (usually June through September). It’s quiet, spacious, and adds a little elegance to your shoot without feeling too formal. Kids love exploring the garden paths, and parents love the light and color.
Troy: Prospect Park & Downtown Vibes
Want something a little more urban or artsy? Downtown Troy has some seriously fun spots with historic buildings, painted murals, and cobblestone streets that give your photos tons of personality.
If you’re looking for more greenery and skyline views, Prospect Park is a go-to. It’s peaceful, full of soft natural light, and perfect for families who want a laid-back vibe with plenty of space for little ones to play.
Bonus: Halfmoon Town Park & Round Lake Preserve
If you’re closer to Clifton Park or the outer Capital Region, both Halfmoon Town Park and Round Lake Preserve are lovely options. They’re quiet, easy to access, and super kid-friendly. Great for more casual, lifestyle-focused family sessions.
